Band-in-a-Box is an automatic accompaniment program for Windows and Macintosh platforms. You type in the chord symbols to any song, using standard chord symbols, choose a style and press ?Play?. Band-in-a-Box then generates a pro quality 5-instrument accompaniment of bass, drums, piano, guitar and strings in over 100 styles of music. Many songs in different styles are included and hundreds more are available as add-ons. The software is particularly good for developing improvisational skills. The tempo of a song can be slowed down so you can get used to the chord changes or even transposed to a more familiar key. One great feature is the ability of Band-in-a-Box to create an impressive and unique solo in any style over a particular set of chord changes. The software can display the solo in standard musical notation should you wish to playalong or learn it.
