Newcastle College’s Performance Academy

– The £21m all-singing, all-dancing school

DV Installation, the specialist installation division of Music Village, has successfully completed it’s work on Newcastle College’s prestigious new Performance Academy. The College wanted to be able to reach as many students as possible, so each of the six first-floor recording studios have been designed to cope with teaching large numbers of students. All the studios have access to record from any source within the suite, including the Academy’s 250-seater Concert Hall.

Teaching on the system could not be easier. The lecturer can sit within eye-contact of each of the groups of students and select the option to converse and monitor the work of each group individually or simultaneously.

The Academy also boasts four full-size more traditional hard disk-based recording and editing studios on the ground floor, two Macintosh-based state-of-the-art programming suites with wall-projected teaching systems, a retro synth and sampling suite and 16 fully equipped rooms for lectures, dance and acting - all with their own P.A, Video / DVD playback and Projection system. The result is simply a music technology teaching facility to rival any other within Europe.

The all singing, all dancing £21m school, will build the talent and skills of the entertainment, media, hospitality and cultural industries which are critical to the region’s aspirations for a new cultural economy.

The first of its kind in the country, it boasts music, dance, recording and media production facilities unseen anywhere else in the UK.

The College has over 1,000 students studying music, performance and media and has already produced a number of famous names including Michelle Heaton of chart topping band Liberty X and a variety of producers, technicians, designers and actors. With this world class facility they will shortly be offering a number of new full and part-time courses to truly put the North East on the map.
