The BitWig Studio V2 Digital Audio Workstation Software (EDU) is a native cross-platform DAW, with an attractive GUI, intuitive workflow improvements and over 70 devices, covering instruments and effects as well as note effects and modulations. Indeed, the modulation system in V2 has been completely revised and improved to vastly increase the scope on offer – each device found in Bitwig Studio (internal and external plug-ins) now features modulation slots into which can be inserted your choice from a selection of modulators. The modulators can be used to control any number of parameters in any given device, and come in the form of staple studio tools such as Envelope Filters and LFOs alongside brand new inventions like Random and Math. These modulators extend the creative palette in practically endless possibilities once they have been added to the already impressive suite of instrument and effect plug-ins included with Bitwig V2. In all there are 25 new modulators and 17 new devices added to this edition, alongside improvements to the existing stable.
The sound content library now contains over 2000 presets, a total of 9GB of audio data – expect to see multi-sampled instruments, drum machines, loops and sound effects. Both linear timeline sequencing and non-linear performance-based clip launching are easily achievable from inside Bitwig V2, making it an excellent choice for both studio production/recording and live application. V2 also has integrated support for many MIDI controllers, including MPE support for next generation models. Used in conjunction with the new remote control panel available for every device, any preferred workflow can be tailored to suit the needs of the artist/producer. The new dashboard interface also consolidates much of the information that would have been hidden away in menus within V1, and displays it in a much clearer fashion. Updates across the program, improved hardware integration, new menus, MIDI timecode and VST3 support and smart tool switching are all just more examples of the ways in which Bitwig Studio V2 has taken a great leap forward from its already superb predecessor.
