The unit itself is nice, buttons are nice and I personally like the design.

The mid wheel is slightly notched.

I found the drivers to be flakey, and my mac would not even register it as an interface when powering via firewire at first.

Only bus powers through Firewire, which is fine and I was aware of, but you can only power the unit when using USB with the MAMMOTH breakout cable attached, a truly poor design flaw, making it useless and a palava for those on the move or just wanting to use it with headphones etc.

The breakout cable weighs more than the unit itself and is big and clunky.

The alternative is to buy the breakout box, but doesn't really help the situation as you're faced with another cabling to link between the two and then would power the master unit through the breakout box.

All in all, a disappointment really - have returned the unit.

The MOTU track 16 has the quality preamps that MOTU are known for producing, packed inside a well built metal chassis that has quite a satisfying wheel to turn that controls the volume of the outputs, the gain of the inputs and the activation of phantom power and the -20dB PAD. The buttons are also nice to the touch and the backlighting is changeable. Overall it is great value for money as it comes with not only 16 I/O but Cue Mix (which many interfaces do not come with). Cue Mix is the software that comes integrated with the MOTU interface and has a range of features that make this an overall value for money product such as a guitar tuner, phase analyser, EQ and Compression. The only bad thing about this product is the meter long break out cable that comes with it as this weighs more than the actual interface; if you can find the right position for it though... It isn't much of a problem, besides MOTU has also brought out a 'breakout box' to resolve this issue.

I would definitely recommend this product especially as it comes with ADAT if you ever need to expand on the amount of preamps you need. XD
