Ultralink ULM202USB Wireless Microphone System description:

The Behringer Ultralink ULM202USB Wireless Microphone System is a USB wireless microphone system, featuring two handheld transmitters and one dual-mode USB receiver dongle, with digital 2.4GHz wireless connectivity. The highest-quality sound is provided by the two dynamic hand-held microphones thanks to their built-in transmitter, which operates in the license-free 2.4 GHz range.

The dedicated ULM receiver not only connects to your PC/Mac computer’s USB port for recording directly into your favourite DAW application, but also works with a wide range of Behringer “Wireless-Ready” mixers and powered speakers. The state-of-the-art transmitters and receiver operate in the 2.4 GHz frequency band, and because it is digitally encrypted, your signal gets through in all its pristine, high-definition quality. The ULM202USB has a battery life of at least 30 hours of performance time from a pair of AA alkaline batteries.

The main features of the Behringer Ultralink ULM202USB Wireless Microphone System include:

  • 2x ULM200M Handheld Microphones; 1x ULM200D Dual-Mode USB Receiver

I bought this system for use with a Behringer QX1832USB mixer, I.E. a mixer that has the built-in USB socket designed specifically for this microphone system.

The concept is excellent two mics up-and-running by plugging in one USB dongle! A great time-saver, in theory. And the mic capsules sound good.

Unfortunately, Behringer made odd choices with this system
The microphones have no on/off switch. You plug the USB dongle into the mixer, then hold the volume-up buttons to turn on the mics. To turn them off, you have to REMOVE the USB dongle from the mixer then WAIT 60 seconds! The mics don't store your gain/volume setting between uses, they default back to medium volume every time you switch them on. If you mute the mics longer than 60 seconds, they remember your volume setting, but if you mute them less than 60 seconds, they unmute at minimum volume. Oh, and they have no mute button, you need to hold the volume-down button, which means you could accidentally mute the mics when trying to adjust volume!

I also experienced some connection drop-out issues when first testing the system's mute/unmute function. These issues have since stopped, but I have no idea why!

The mics are very light and pleasing on the eye but not the ear and awkward to use.
Two AA batteries are in the handgrips (nice not to keep putting in PP3s). When closed fully closed the mics did not operate. They needed to be slightly loose for them to work. When I say work I use that term loosely. The sound quality would be fine for a bingo caller but don't compare at all even with my other budget radio mics. There is a constant background interference noise and the wireless pairing failed often. Not quite sure if this is because of a faulty USB unit.
I hope I just got a bad one and a new working one fit for purpose will be forthcoming. Ill keep you posted.
I used the mics with a brand new Beyringer EUROPOWER PMP200D mixer amp. I thought it would have been very convenient to have a plug in USB and was one of the main reasons I bought the amp. Looks like I'm stuck with using my old radio mic systems for the time being.
