M5 Condenser Microphones, Matched Pair description:

The Rode M5 Matched Pair is a pair of condenser ‘pencil’ microphones providing detailed sound reproduction thanks to the microphones’ cardioid polar patterns.

The Rode M5 features a ½” capsule with a gold-plated membrane, encased in an all-metal body with a matte-black finish. With its cardioid polar pattern and end address design, the M5 will pick up sound into the end of the microphone and reject sound from the back of it.

The M5 Matched Pair is ideal for recording music as well as environmental recordings and spoken word. The pair of microphones has been hand-selected to ensure that there is a variation of no more than 1dB in sensitivity, and the mics are supplied with a premium foiled certificate of authenticity to verify that they are matched.

The M5 Matched Pair comes with WS5 windshields and RM5 stand mounts.

The main features of the Rode M5 Matched Pair include:

  • Hand-selected matched pair
  • ½” capsule with gold-plated membrane
  • Cardioid polar pattern
  • All-metal body with matte-black finish
  • Ultra-low noise, transformer-less circuitry
  • Gold-plated output connectors
  • Designed and manufactured in Australia
  • Includes WS5 windshields and RM5 stand mounts

Review:
This is my first matched pair of microphones for stereo recording, I mostly record classical acoustic guitar, some sound effects, samples and percussion and wasn't happy with recording in just mono.

After experimenting with XY, and ORTF, I found that I like the spaced stereo technique the most for classical guitar, it gives a good natural sound with a hint of high shelf boosting but never sounding aggressive or harsh. The book that comes with the mics is excellent and it gives you some tips to get started.

My only critisism is that the mic clips included are ridiculously tight so it can be very tough to get the mics in and out of them, but for this kind of price it's nothing to complain about.

I'm happy to say that this was a worthwhile investment and can honestly see me using these for years to come.

Review:
These are beautiful microphones and well worth the money. You get a lovely (almost) flat response and for the money they are a great addition for a home studio. For anyone looking to buy a matched pair set these are going to be the most versatile and best sounding for the price.
