Beta 58A Dynamic Vocal Microphone description:

The Shure Beta 58A is a super-cardioid dynamic microphone from the same family as the world famous SM58 microphone.

Based on the SM58, the Shure Beta 58A dynamic microphone has become a top choice among vocalists and touring sound professionals, and shares the same rugged build quality. The Shure Beta 58A is designed for professional sound reinforcement and project studio recording, and its neodymium element enables it to give out a higher output than the SM58 and other similar dynamic microphones. This means that less gain is needed on the pre-amp or mixer that it is connected to, which ultimately reduces handling noise.

It maintains a true supercardioid pattern throughout its frequency range, which ensures high gain-before-feedback, maximum isolation from other sound sources, and minimum off-axis tone colouration. The Shure Beta 58A has a shaped frequency response that is ideal for close-up vocals.

The superb performance of this microphone is not affected by rough handling because of its incredibly strong construction, proven shock mount system, and hardened steel mesh grille. Typical applications for the Beta 58A include lead vocals, backup vocals and speech.

The Shure Beta 58A's Main Features Include:

  • Smooth, extended frequency response for outstanding sound for professional live vocal use
  • Consistent supercardioid pattern provides the best gain- before-feedback among dynamic microphones
  • Pneumatic shock mount reduces handling noise
  • Frequency response: 50 to 16,000 Hz

A massive step up from my old SM58. If you get the chance to A - B them you won't believe the difference. Wider frequency range, sounds much bigger. Love it.

Pros: +
Good sound reasonable proximity effect and presence peak. Good feedback rejection and on previous purchases has proven reliable.

Pros: +
Amazed how much better it is than my shure 87 condenser mic. It's cheaper and makes my weak voice sound fuller and more powerful. No contest. Beta definitely the way to go though.

Cons: -
Now I have to sing more to give front man a rest! No bad points found yet.

They are ok - used because specified by a client and I wondered what they are like. Seem even better than the SM58 which I used as they are recognisable - these do sound nicer (never a great fan of SM58s.
