The Akai EWI 5000 is an Electronic Wind Instrument, with a 3GB Sound Library By SONiVOX. The AKAI WEI 5000 is the consistent advancement of the EWI series and will not just impress you with the integrated sound generation but also with the built-in wireless transmitter and the corresponding receiver. Review:
Dealings with DV247 very good and instrument arrived next day as promised - excellent! But, it had a continental mains plug - doh! Customer Service posted an adaptor but I had to wait four days for it to arrive. Negates the good delivery of the instrument doesn't it.
Anyway, the EWI was very easy and quick to set up and the wireless worked fine first time. The sounds are much better than on the 4000 but I don't think I'll be getting any orchestral jobs with it. I particularly like the harmon mute, jazz flute and some of the synth sounds. A warning - the first time you select each sound it takes about six seconds to load? so make sure you've selected them before that big performance at the last night of the proms ). I've been playing the 4000 for a while so got on with it straight away but keep in mind that it is a different instrument from a sax or flute and needs learning and practice. I reckon it's worth the money and am having a lot of fun with it.
