Octo 14" Cajon description:

The Duende Octo 14" Cajon is a 14" octogonal Cajon, made with MDF, featuring a high gloss natural finish. The Octo from Duende combines two popular percussion sounds in a handy instrument. By slapping the wood, you can create a Conga and the snare sound from this Cajon Octo, which enriches virtually every style of music with percussive sounds. The Octo consists of an octagonal barrel made of MDF and thus has a high degree of stability. The clubface is composed of exotic veneers and is bolted to the body of the Octo. The Octo is primarily intended to be used with hands. However, it is of course compatible with soft mallets. The Octo can be mounted on any standard snare stand, or, like a bongo, you can place it easily between your legs.

The main features of the Duende Octo 14" Cajon include:

  • Playing Surface: Roots Veneer
  • Diameter: 14"
  • Shape: Octogonal
  • Material: MDF
  • Finish: High-Gloss
  • No snare system

Review:
I play congas and the a little bit of Cuban cajon that's played on top and doesn't have a snare. I have a compact conga but it is, although portable, still quite heavy due to the metal hoops. This cajon is very light so that's perfect! I would say that for its size, it produces a fair amount of volume. I like the sound hole in the bottom, could mic it up if need be. I am in love with the sound of Cuban cajons; and though this one doesn't of course have a bass as thunderous as those, I think it is close in terms of other sounds. I did take the snare out, mind you - but this is my preference for the kind of music I play. It did sound nice with the snare in, and it is tuneable. I love the shape, comfortable to play and hold, and more familiar to me as a conga player.
