The Yamaha LS 9-16 is a 16-channel live-sound mixer combining the essentials of portability with incredible digital sound control and features that make the LS9-16 a mixer that’s designed with the future in mind.
The Yamaha LS9-16 digital mixer features 16 mono mic/line inputs, including four stereo input channels, all controlled by 16 motorised faders. The 16 inputs can be expanded to 32, thanks to the inclusion of a second layer. With a sophisticated recall function, presets can be recalled at any time, and the Home button helpfully enables the user to return to the default scene for inputs 1-16. There’s also a Custom Fader Layer which can be assigned to individual faders to create a layer consisting of both input and output faders.
Within the LS9-16’s digital user interface is a virtual rack, offering a whole host of very useable effects, including reverbs from the acclaimed REV-X reverb unit. Up to four multi-effects processors can be used simultaneously. There’s a 31-channel graphic EQ for the master output as well as standard four-band EQs on each channel.
The LS9-16 features a USB input for connecting an external hard drive or USB stick, enabling the master output to be recorded directly to USB and playback of audio. Recordings can be made in MP3 up to 192kbps, while the unit can playback audio in MP3, AAC or WMA formats.
The Yamaha LS9-16 is compatible with the iOS App LS9 StageMix for iPad, which enables an iPad to be used to wirelessly control the mix functions on the LS9-16. This enables a performer on stage to control their own monitor mix, editing it without needing to bother the soundman or touch the faders on the LS9-16 itself.
